The Village Chapel, Bald Head Island, North Carolina
The Village Chapel is nestled among live oaks on the Bald Head Island Lighthouse grounds at the edge of the marsh. Services at the chapel are always special, particular the Easter Sunrise Service and the spectacle of the sun rising over the marsh. The land on which the chapel rests was donated by the George and Cynthia Mitchel family and donations by property owners covered the construction costs. The Chapel was designed by Texas architect Clovis Helmsath and the stained glass windows were designed by his wife Marianne. The groundbreaking for The Chapel was held on Easter Sunday, 1986 and The Chapel was dedicated on Easter Sunday, 1987.
